Belterra Park Picks & Predictions — October 2, 2026
Rain is falling at Belterra Park this Friday, October 2nd, and that changes everything. With temps sitting at 69°F and wet conditions in play, the dirt surface figures to play deep and tiring — exactly the kind of setup that rewards closers who can handle slop and punishes speed horses who set suicidal fractions up front.
We've got a full eight-race card to break down today, and there's plenty to dig into. Three of those races feature turf action, which is always worth monitoring when rain is in the forecast — surface switches can create chaos in the wagering pools and open the door for live longshots that casual bettors sleep on.
Our TrackWiz ratings cover every horse on the card. The first three races are free for all readers, with the full premium breakdown — including exotic plays and pace projections for Races 4 through 8 — available to subscribers.

Race 1
Claiming · 1 mi 70 yd · Dirt
The top of the TrackWiz ratings are tightly bunched in this one-mile claiming opener, but the morning line tells a different story — setting up a potential overlay situation worth exploiting.
Big Rog tops the TrackWiz ratings at 87.81 — a clear edge over the field in this claiming mile on dirt. His 5/2 morning line looks like a gift considering he grades out nearly 8 points above the second-ranked horse, and trainer Barry L. King puts him in a position to fire fresh. The 11% career win rate isn't flashy, but the raw rating advantage here is hard to ignore, and Dylan Machado gets the call in the irons.
Organized lands in a strong place spot at 2/1 on the morning line, backed by a 22% career win rate — the best in the field by a wide margin. Trainer Dean Ward has him rated 80.08 by TrackWiz, and Guillermo Rodriguez is a reliable pilot who knows how to place horses in the money. If Big Rog gets loose on the lead, Organized figures to be right there mopping up.
Cannon at 3/1 rounds out our top three and offers solid exotic appeal with a 77.13 TrackWiz rating. His average speed figure (54) is the best in the field, suggesting he can hold a pace and still have something left at the end of a route. Santiago Gonzalez is in the saddle for trainer Robert C. Cline, a combination worth noting in your exacta and trifecta tickets.
Race 2
Allowance · 1 mi · Dirt
A short, competitive allowance field going a flat mile on dirt, with a dominant TrackWiz rating at the top and a cluster of contenders fighting over the minor spots.
My Trooper is a straightforward top selection here — an 88.83 TrackWiz rating that dwarfs the rest of this allowance field, backed by a 20% career win rate that's genuinely elite. Jockey Yarmarie L. Correa teams up with trainer Larry E. Smith, and this is a trainer-horse combo that clearly knows what they have. At 9/5 on the morning line, the price isn't generous, but the quality is real — this horse earns the top spot on merit.
Run Bobby Run at 2/1 is the logical place play, holding a 67.67 TrackWiz rating and a 14% career win rate for trainer Robert C. Cline. Guillermo Rodriguez gets the mount and is one of the more active pilots at this meet. The gap between him and My Trooper is significant, but he's clearly the class of the rest of the field and should comfortably hold a place.
Global Event at 5/2 rounds out our show call — a 61.83 TrackWiz rating from trainer Timothy E. Hamm, who also saddles Guess Again in the same race. With a 15% career win rate, Global Event has the experience edge, even if the average speed figure (51) is the lowest in the top contenders. Laureano Sosa picks up the mount and the price could linger at overlaid value if the morning line holds.
Race 3
Maiden Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
Maiden claimers going six furlongs on dirt — winless horses all around, so form is murky, but the TrackWiz ratings reveal a standout that the morning line hasn't fully priced in.
Dangereuse posts the top TrackWiz rating in this maiden claiming sprint at 86.35 — a number that jumps off the page in a field where no horse has broken their maiden. Trainer Rebecca Johnston sends her out with Rafael Mojica, Jr. up, and the 7/2 morning line represents genuine value for a horse grading out this far ahead of the field. In maiden races, raw ratings derived from recent work and form indicators tend to be especially predictive — Dangereuse is our clear top choice.
Classic Tiramisu at 5/2 is an interesting counterpoint — she's the morning line favorite but slots second in our ratings at 76.37. Her average speed figure (54) ties for the top of the field alongside Zettie, suggesting she can keep up with the pace scenario. Trainer Richard Estvanko sends her out with Gabriel Lagunes, and the short price means she'll need to hit the board to generate any return.
Zettie at 4/1 brings the joint-best average speed figure in the field (54) and a 51.28 TrackWiz rating that places her third overall. Trainer Alice Beckman and jockey Jane Elliott are a quiet combo in this race, but the speed numbers say Zettie can factor in the early going and potentially hang on for a piece. A 4/1 show price in a maiden race is worth sprinkling in your trifectas.
The early card offers three solid opportunities to build your bankroll. Big Rog kicks things off in Race 1, a dirt Claiming route going 1 mile and 70 yards — a distance that could separate the genuine stayers from the pretenders, especially with a wet track taking early speed off the table. Our TrackWiz rating of 87.81 makes him the top number on the board at a fair 5/2 morning line.
Race 2 shifts to a cleaner Allowance picture, where My Trooper posts our highest free-race rating of the day at 88.83 — strong enough to warrant attention even as a 9/5 favorite. And in Race 3, the Maiden Claiming six-furlong sprint gives us Dangereuse at 7/2, a name worth circling if the track plays to the outside as rain-softened surfaces often do. Three free races, three horses we like — but keep in mind, nothing is a lock on a muddy Friday.
