Santa Anita Picks & Predictions — June 7, 2026
It's a picture-perfect Sunday at Santa Anita Park — 77°F, clear skies, and the kind of Southern California afternoon that makes you want to plant yourself in the apron and not move. Ten races are on the board today, split evenly between dirt and turf, and that firm, fast turf course is going to be a major factor in how we handicap the second half of this card.
The card opens with a trio of sprints that give us clean looks at horses we can evaluate with confidence — two on the turf, one on the dirt. Then the card shifts gears heading into the premium stretch, featuring a mile on the grass, a tricky maiden special weight sprint, and a closing nightcap that looks like the best betting race of the day. Ten races, a mix of claiming, allowance, and maiden company, and at least a couple of spots where the morning line feels beatable.
TrackWiz analysis has flagged three races as free best bets today — Races 1, 2, and 3 — and the full 10-race breakdown is available for subscribers. Let's get into it.
Best Bets
Race 1
Claiming · 6 fur · Turf
A tale of two favorites on the turf — the morning line chalk and our top-rated horse set up a fascinating matchup at 6 furlongs, with a sneaky 6/1 shot lurking underneath.
Tigerhon tops our TrackWiz ratings at 88.54 and leads the field in average speed figures at 57, making him the clear class of this claiming turf sprint. Peter Miller is one of the sharpest turf trainers in Southern California, and Hector Isaac Berrios gets the call. At 2/1 on the morning line, the public likes him too, but our numbers suggest the price is justified — this horse brings the best combination of raw ability and recent form in the field.
Central Dispatch opens as the morning line favorite at even money, and a 27% career win rate is genuinely elite in a field like this. Joel Rosario, one of the best riders in the country, handles the mount for the powerful John W. Sadler barn. The TrackWiz rating of 80.39 is second-best in the field, making him a very safe place ticket underneath Tigerhon.
Rexford at 6/1 brings the second-best career win rate in the field at 20% and a solid TrackWiz rating of 77.65 — third-highest overall. Jose Raudales keeps him competitive at this level, and Cesar Ortega is a capable pilot for a turf sprint. At those odds, he's a legitimate show anchor in your exotics and worth including in trifecta wheels.
Race 2
Allowance Optional Claiming · 5 1/2 fur · Dirt
Romantic Ride looks like a big favorite waiting to happen on the dirt, but Fumano's Magic at 6/1 could make the exotics interesting in this allowance optional claiming sprint.
Romantic Ride is the standout here — a TrackWiz rating of 89.12 leads the field by a wide margin, and her 33% career win rate is exceptional. Joel Rosario in the irons for Vladimir Cerin is a powerful combination, and at 5.5 furlongs on the dirt, she's got the best average speed figure in the field at 56. She's the 8/5 morning line chalk for good reason, and our numbers back it up emphatically.
Fumano's Magic at 6/1 is our value play underneath, posting the top TrackWiz rating of 68.21 among the rest of the field — a meaningful separation from the others chasing Romantic Ride. Val Brinkerhoff places horses well, and Tiago Josue Pereira is a live rider. If Romantic Ride hits any trouble, Fumano's Magic is positioned to grab the place spot.
Courtside Action has a 2/1 morning line that reflects her unbeaten career record, but the TrackWiz rating of 58.33 suggests she may be overvalued in the win pool. That said, a 100% career win rate — however limited the sample — means she knows how to finish. She's a reasonable show play for conservative bettors who want exposure to her unblemished record without overcommitting.
Race 3
Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt
Aloha Dreamin enters as a heavy class standout with the top rating and the best career win percentage — but can the 9/5 chalk hold off a deep field of sneaky alternatives at 6 furlongs on the dirt?
Aloha Dreamin owns this field on paper — a 28% career win rate is the best among all seven starters, and a TrackWiz rating of 88.83 is nearly 19 points clear of the next horse. Jeff Mullins is a respected trainer at this level, and Kyle Frey gets the mount. At 9/5 on the morning line, she's the right favorite and our top selection with confidence.
Toulouse Detrac is the second choice at 2/1 and posts a solid 70.05 TrackWiz rating, which is legitimately strong for a claiming field. George Papaprodromou is a trainer who knows how to fire horses fresh, and Edwin Maldonado gives him a competent pilot. He's our place pick as the most likely beneficiary if Aloha Dreamin faces any pace pressure.
Tom's Star at 6/1 offers some value in the exotics with a 67.36 TrackWiz rating — third-best in the field — and Brian Cunningham keeps his horses competitive at Santa Anita. His average speed figure of 53 is modest, but in a field where the top two could battle each other, Tom's Star could sneak into the show spot at a juicy price. A solid trifecta filler.
Today's three free races paint a consistent picture: we're leaning toward horses who figure to be on or near the pace early. In Race 1, Tigerhon (morning line 2/1, TrackWiz rating 88.54) draws our top mark in a 6-furlong turf claiming event — that firm turf should play to a horse who can roll forward and dare the field to catch him. On the dirt in Race 2, Romantic Ride (8/5 ML, 89.12) earns our top rating on the card through the first three races in a 5½-furlong allowance optional claimer — a sharp figure and favorable pace scenario make this our most confident play of the free tier. Race 3 gives us Aloha Dreamin (9/5 ML, 88.83) going 6 furlongs on the dirt, another spot where our pace projections suggest the front end will be rewarded.
The common thread across all three: today's clear, dry conditions favor horses with early foot, and the surface reads fast enough that we're not looking for late-running closers to steal these races. Back the speed, don't overthink it.
