Remington Park Picks & Predictions — May 28, 2026
It's a wet one at Remington Park today. Rain is falling with temperatures sitting at 82°F, and that moisture is going to play a real role across all 12 races on this Thursday card. Quarter horse racing at Remington is always fast and furious — we're talking distances from 250 yards all the way out to 400 yards — and a damp track can shift the advantage in ways that separate sharp bettors from casual ones.
The card leans heavily on claiming and maiden company early before stepping up to allowance-level horses in the back half of the afternoon. That late trio of allowance races (Races 10, 11, and 12) is where the real talent concentrates, and our TrackWiz ratings reflect it — three of our top four-rated picks on the card come out of those final three races.
Three races are open to everyone today. The rest of the full-card breakdown is available to TrackWiz subscribers. Let's get into it.
Best Bets
Race 1
Claiming · 250 yd · Dirt
A wide-open 250-yard dash where the morning-line favorite doesn't match up with the TrackWiz ratings — and that disconnect opens the door for a legit overlay at the top.
Sheza a Hot Secret (No. 4) tops the TrackWiz ratings at 79.79 — the highest mark in this seven-horse claiming sprint — yet the morning line has her sitting at 8/1. That's a significant gap between perceived and projected performance, and it's the kind of number that should have your attention. Trainer Jesus Ruben Ruiz sends her out with Roman Cruz in the irons, a rider who knows Remington Park's short tracks well. At 21% career win rate, she's proven she can close the deal, and we expect the crowd to sleep on her while the value is right there.
Run for Miles (No. 3) carries a 70.61 TrackWiz rating — second-best in the field — and has trainer Matt Whitekiller behind him, who also has Icy Turnpike in this same race, showing stable confidence. Randy Vega gets the call, and while the 9% career win rate is modest, the rating separation between Run for Miles and the bottom half of the field is real. He's a solid place anchor for your exotics.
Icy Turnpike (No. 2) is the morning-line favorite at 2/1 with a 68.85 rating, and while we think there's more value elsewhere on top, he's too consistent to ignore in the show slot. Cody Rodger Smith is a capable hand in short dirt sprints, and the Whitekiller barn clearly has two live horses in here — which suggests they've pointed this stable block at this race. Rounding out an exacta or trifecta with Icy Turnpike makes plenty of sense.
Race 2
Claiming · 400 yd · Dirt
A deep ten-horse field at 400 yards, but two horses separate themselves from the pack on ratings — making this more of a key-horse race than a full spread.
Heza Pete (No. 8) owns the top TrackWiz rating in this field at 87.81 — a number that stands well clear of the competition — and Cody Rodger Smith picks up the mount. The morning line of 5/2 reflects some public respect, but the rating advantage here is substantial enough that we're comfortable making him our top selection. Trainer Stacey L. Capps has him fit and pointed, and over 400 yards, a horse with this kind of edge has plenty of time to assert himself.
Can Run (No. 5) checks in with a 78.58 TrackWiz rating — second only to Heza Pete — and Roman Cruz is a smart booking from trainer Marti L. Rodriguez. The 4/1 morning line offers a touch of value for a horse with this rating profile, and the gap between Can Run and the rest of the field outside the top two is meaningful. He's the horse to beat if Heza Pete has any trouble.
Point Peak Senator (No. 9) at 5/1 slots in at 57.17 on our ratings, which puts him squarely in the third tier but a step above the lower half of this field. Bryan Candanosa is a solid jockey booking, and trainer Marla Dayana Vargas has shown the ability to have horses ready to run at Remington. He's a reasonable show horse or trifecta filler without overcommitting on a longshot.
Race 3
Maiden Claiming · 300 yd · Dirt
A maiden claiming sprint at 300 yards with an all-maiden field — none of these horses have ever won, but the TrackWiz ratings tell a clearer story than the morning line does.
Leaf On the Wind (No. 8) tops this maiden field with a 60.42 TrackWiz rating and draws in at 3/1 on the morning line — a reasonable price for the top-rated horse. Trainer Hernesto Ramirez has multiple horses active on the Remington circuit, and Juan Arellano takes the mount. In a maiden race where no one has a win on the board, rating separation matters more than ever, and Leaf On the Wind has the biggest cushion in this field.
R U Relentless (No. 7) posts a 55.00 rating — second-best in the field — and comes in at 4/1 with Juan Pulido aboard for trainer Guillermo Valdivia. The five-point gap between him and Leaf On the Wind is notable, but the gap below him is bigger, which suggests he's a genuine contender for the minor awards. In maiden races, the second-best horse often hits the board even when the winner is clear.
Jmg Teller Idea (No. 10) rates third in the field at 53.33 with Christian Cardenas up and trainer Juan Carlos Morales-Cipriano overseeing preparations. The 5/1 morning line makes him an interesting trifecta piece — he's right in the cluster just behind the top two on ratings, and in a wide-open maiden sprint, that positioning can pay off. Use him underneath in your trifecta tickets.
Our three free best bets today span the first half of the card — a 250-yard claiming sprint in Race 1, a 400-yard claiming race in Race 2, and a 300-yard maiden claiming in Race 3. The standout of the trio is Heza Pete in Race 2, who carries our highest free-race rating at 87.81 and lands on the morning line at a workable 5/2. On a wet track, pace out of the gate matters even more than usual, and Heza Pete's profile fits the conditions. Sheza a Hot Secret in Race 1 is the longshot angle of the group at 8/1 on the morning line — that's the kind of number where a little rain-day variance can turn a value play into a big score. Leaf On the Wind draws the toughest assignment in the maiden ranks of Race 3, posting a 60.42 rating that reflects genuine uncertainty in a wide-open field.
One thing to watch across all three of these early sprints: with rain in the air, be cautious about horses with outside post positions. Short-distance quarter horse racing doesn't leave much room for ground to be made up, and any inconsistency in the footing at the gate can end a race before it starts.
