Laurel Park Picks & Predictions — June 7, 2026
It's a beauty of a Sunday at Laurel Park — clear skies, 84°F, and eight races on the board to keep you busy all afternoon. The weather gods are cooperating, which matters here because five of today's eight races are carded on the turf. When the turf is running fast and the sun is out, speed figures from the grass can be sneaky deceptive, so pace scenarios are going to be critical today.
The card mixes claiming races and allowance company with a pair of maiden routes thrown in to keep things interesting. There's value to be found across multiple levels — from a 6/1 shot we like in the maiden claiming turf mile to a heavy favorite we're not ready to blindly back. Eight races, two surfaces, and plenty to dig into. Let's get after it.
Best Bets
Race 1
Claiming · 5 1/2 fur · Turf
Three horses are clustered at the top of the TrackWiz ratings in this 5½-furlong turf claimer, setting up a competitive battle at the top while the rest of the field trails well behind.
Frye Island comes in as the top-rated horse in the field at 88.54 and draws the morning-line favoritism at 2/1 for good reason. With an average speed figure of 57 — tied for the field's best — this horse has the raw talent to dominate on the turf sprint. Jockey Jevian Toledo takes the mount, and he's a proven commodity at Laurel. The 16% career win rate is solid, and TrackWiz analysis puts Frye Island well clear of most of the competition here.
Call Me a Cab is just a whisker behind at a TrackWiz rating of 87.81 and also posts an average speed figure of 57, matching the top of the field. At 5/2 on the morning line, this is a serious contender in her own right under Yedsit Hazlewood. With a 14% career win rate and a high rating, Call Me a Cab looks like the safest place bet on the board if Frye Island gets the job done.
Tik Tok Daddy clocks in at an 83.55 TrackWiz rating — third-best in the field — and also averages 56 in speed figures. Trainer Hassan Elamri sends out a horse with a 5% career win rate, so wins don't come often, but the talent level is clearly there in this spot. At 9/2, including Tik Tok Daddy in your exotics as a show horse or in trifecta combinations makes solid sense.
Race 2
Claiming · 7 fur · Dirt
A short six-horse field at 7 furlongs on dirt, where the morning-line favorite carries a commanding TrackWiz edge and a career win percentage that dwarfs most of the competition.
Watch Your Tone opens as the 6/5 favorite and backs it up with the field's highest TrackWiz rating at 89.71. A 25% career win rate is exceptional at this level — one in four career starts ending in the winner's circle speaks to a consistent performer. Trainer A. Ferris Allen III has the horse primed, and Yedsit Hazlewood gets the call. This is as close to a 'banker' as you'll find at this claiming level.
Skip Thru Da Fire sits second in the TrackWiz ratings at 75.41 and brings a 17% career win rate to the table, giving him a legitimate chance to hit the board at 2/1. Jose Vargas has the mount, and despite the gap to Watch Your Tone, this horse has enough back class to hold the place spot if anything goes sideways up front. The morning line reflects his real shot at finishing in the money.
Ginger Girl is a fair price at 4/1 for a show ticket in what's essentially a race dominated by two horses. Trainer Joanne Shankle sends her out with a 20% career win rate, which is among the better figures in this field. Her TrackWiz rating of 46.19 doesn't scream top-three, but in a small six-horse field, show prices tend to flatten and she's got enough to sneak into third.
Race 3
Maiden Claiming · 1 mi · Turf
This wide-open maiden claiming mile on the turf features 14 horses with zero career wins among them, making form reading tricky and creating real overlay opportunities for savvy exotic players.
Rylnnslookinglucky tops the TrackWiz ratings in this maiden field at 82.71, a clear step above the competition despite going off at 6/1 on the morning line — a potential overlay. Angel Cruz takes the mount, working for trainer Kenneth M. Cox who also saddles a second runner in the race. The 51 average speed figure is modest, but in a field of zero-for-life maidens, the rating edge is what matters most here.
Christmas Jones is the second-ranked horse in the field at a 72.56 TrackWiz rating and actually posts the best average speed figure among the top picks at 55. Trainer Keri Brion is well-regarded in this region, and Yedsit Hazlewood will look to get this one into a good position on the turf. At 9/2, Christmas Jones represents solid place value and should be in every exacta combination.
Holy Fit checks in at a 56.86 TrackWiz rating and shows an average speed figure of 53, good enough to stay competitive in this maiden field. Trainer Mark V. Salvaggio sends this one out at a fair 4/1, and at a mile on the turf, pace dynamics can get complicated enough that a closer like Holy Fit might benefit. Include this one underneath in trifectas as a live show contender.
We're giving away our analysis on the first three races free of charge, and this opening trio is worth your attention. Frye Island tops our ratings in Race 1 at 88.54 on the turf sprint — the 2/1 morning line looks fair but there could be a bit of overlay depending on how the money moves. In Race 2, Watch Your Tone is one of the highest-rated horses on the entire card (89.71) going 7 furlongs on the dirt, though the 6/5 price means you'll need to decide how you want to play the value. And in Race 3, Rylnnslookinglucky is our 6/1 longshot angle in the maiden claiming turf mile — exactly the kind of price you want on a route maiden where the pace can get messy and form reversals happen regularly.
The through-line in these three free races: turf form matters today. The ground should be playing well under the afternoon sun, and horses that have demonstrated grass speed in their recent lines deserve a long look. Keep an eye on early pace in each race — on a fast turf course, closers can get lost if the early fractions are honest.
