Delta Downs Picks & Predictions — May 28, 2026
Happy Thursday from Delta Downs, where eight races are locked and loaded under partly cloudy skies and a warm 84°F afternoon. The track is running its usual all-dirt Quarter Horse program, and with conditions looking stable and fast, we're expecting some sharp times from gate to wire today.
The card is a nice mix of conditions — maiden claimers, straight claimers, optional claiming, allowance company, and a maiden special weight tossed in for good measure. Distances range from a lightning-quick 250 yards all the way out to 550 yards, so there's something for every style of handicapper on today's ticket.
Three races are open to all TrackWiz readers, with our full five-race premium breakdown available to subscribers. Let's get into it.
Best Bets
Race 1
Maiden Claiming · 350 yd · Dirt
A wide-open maiden claiming sprint at 350 yards where every horse carries a zero career win percentage — this is a true first-look field and the ratings separation at the top is razor-thin.
Coys Fast Champ (#3) earns the top TrackWiz rating in this field at 56.67, edging out the competition in a race where margins matter in a maiden group like this. Pedro Chavarria Espinosa gets the call, and the 3/1 morning line confirms the bookmakers see this one at the top too. In a 350-yard dash, breaking sharp is everything, and our analysis puts Coys Fast Champ ahead of the pack when the gate opens.
Mr Piloto Streakin (#2) checks in with a 55.0 rating — just a hair behind the top pick — and Rolando Cabrera is a reliable hand in these short-distance sprints. At 4/1 on the morning line, there's a solid chance this one finds the exacta spot even if the win eludes him in a close field.
Right Bayou (#8) and Jrs Majestic Diamond (#6) share a 53.33 TrackWiz rating, but it's Right Bayou with Leonardo Rodriguez up that nudges into our show slot. In a ten-horse maiden sprint, third-place finishes can be volatile, but the rating cluster at the top of this field makes Right Bayou a reasonable exotic hedge at 5/1.
Race 2
Claiming · 250 yd · Dirt
Tlc Best Prize enters this 250-yard claiming sprint with a commanding rating advantage over the field, but Moonlight and Corona — the morning-line favorite — will make this a two-horse battle worth watching closely.
Tlc Best Prize (#5) carries the highest TrackWiz rating in the field by a significant margin at 84.17, and a career win rate of 22% gives this one a legitimate résumé to back it up. Ubaldo Luna handles the ribbons, a jockey who knows how to fire a horse out of the gate in these ultra-short dashes. At 5/1 on the morning line, there's genuine overlay potential here given how clearly this horse stands above the field on our model.
Moonlight and Corona (#4) is the morning-line chalk at 2/1 and posts a solid 79.72 rating with a 20% career win rate, so don't sleep on this one threatening for the top spot. Adrian X. Morales takes the mount, and in a 250-yard sprint every gate break decision is magnified. The second-place slot feels like the floor for this horse's effort.
Shezastreakineagle (#7) is the most intriguing number in this field — a career win rate of 33% is the best in the entire race, yet the morning line sits at 12/1. Yaidel Rodriguez has the mount, and while the 58.23 rating trails the top two, that win percentage suggests a horse that fires when conditions are right. At double-digit odds, tossing this one into the show slot of a trifecta is the kind of value play that makes multi-race tickets pop.
Race 3
Claiming · 300 yd · Dirt
Ostrich Innocent looms as a clear class standout in this 300-yard claimer, but Supertrucker and Bold Bux give the race enough competitive depth to make the exacta interesting.
Ostrich Innocent (#1) tops this field with a TrackWiz rating of 88.83 — the strongest mark in this race by a wide margin — and Rolando Cabrera gets the leg up from the inside post. The 9/5 morning line reflects the obvious strength here, and while the career win rate of 11% might seem modest, that's a function of competition level, not ability. In a 300-yard sprint, drawing post one with a horse this sharp on our ratings is a powerful combination.
Supertrucker (#5) slots in as our place pick with a 76.46 rating and a 9% career win rate at a 3/1 price. Randy Edison Jr. takes the mount, and the horse's rating suggests it's well within striking distance of the top pick on the right trip. If Ostrich Innocent catches any gate trouble, Supertrucker is positioned to capitalize.
Bold Bux (#6) rates third in this field at 66.77 and gets Rene Hernandez, who's familiar with these Delta Downs short sprints. The 9/2 morning line is fair for a horse sitting in the third tier of our ratings, and the 6% career win rate, while low, isn't alarming in a claiming context at this distance. Plugging Bold Bux into the show leg of a trifecta with the top two feels like the right structure here.
Our three free races today span the sprint spectrum from 250 yards (Race 2) to 350 yards (Race 1), capping out at 300 yards in Race 3. The standout of the trio is Ostrich Innocent in Race 3 — our top TrackWiz rating on the free card at 88.83 and posted at a juicy 9/5 on the morning line, which suggests real competitive value if the price holds into post time. Meanwhile, Tlc Best Prize in Race 2 is a name worth circling at 5/1 — that morning line tells you the morning line maker respects the field, but our 84.17 rating says there's a legit case to be made here.
On the 84°F partly cloudy afternoon, the dirt should be playing quick and consistent, which historically benefits horses with clean early speed at this level. Keep that in mind as you look at the pace scenarios across these short sprints — in Quarter Horse racing, gate speed and a clean break are everything.
