It's a warm Thursday afternoon at Horseshoe Indianapolis — partly cloudy skies and 89°F on the thermometer, which means that Dirt is going to be fast and unforgiving. Nine races are on the docket today, mixing Maiden Claiming, Maiden Special Weight, Claiming, and Allowance company across both Dirt and Turf surfaces. There's something here for every type of handicapper.
The card leans heavily on maiden races — four of the nine are MSW or Maiden Claiming events — which always adds a layer of intrigue. Cool Hunting rates as the class of this field with a TrackWiz score of 87.81 — the highest mark by a significant margin over any rival. Hannah Leahey gets the call for trainer Gregory R. Bland, and at 5/2 on the morning line, this isn't a huge overlay, but the ratings edge is hard to ignore. The average speed figure of 52 is workmanlike for the maiden claiming level, but when combined with that top rating, Cool Hunting profiles as the most complete horse in the field. In a race where everyone is still looking for win number one, having the biggest edge on ratings is the most reliable separator.
Chabelo lands second in our ratings at 79.54 and draws a manageable post at 6 under Micah Meeks. Trainer Miguel Angel Silva keeps this one competitive with a 9/2 morning line, making Chabelo a legitimate place threat if Cool Hunting handles the pressure up front. The 53 average speed figure matches the middle of the pack, but the rating gap over the rest of the field suggests this horse has a real chance to earn a check.
Movin Out is the morning-line favorite at 3/2 for trainer Joseph D. Davis, which means the public will be behind this one — but our ratings have it third at 71.89, trailing both Cool Hunting and Chabelo. That gap doesn't disqualify Movin Out from the show spot, especially with Joseph M. Romero in the irons and an average speed figure of 54 — best in the race. Trainer Aaron M. West saddles two horses in this maiden special weight mile, and it's the longshot of the barn — not the morning-line favorite — that leads our TrackWiz ratings, setting up an interesting intra-stable dynamic.
Bigtimejustice tops our ratings at 84.90 despite going off at 9/2 on the morning line, which is a meaningful gap from the 8/5 favorite Firedupjustice — both trained by Aaron M. West. Mitchell Murrill, one of the meet's top jockeys, gets the mount, which is a strong positive signal. The 53 average speed figure is solid for the MSW level, and when a trainer splits a top rider between two entrants, the one Murrill lands on deserves extra respect. At near-double the morning line odds of his stablemate, Bigtimejustice is the value play in this race.
Firedupjustice is the public's horse at 8/5 and carries a TrackWiz rating of 59 — respectable but well short of stablemate Bigtimejustice. Orlando Mojica takes the mount for West, and the 53 average speed figure keeps this one in the conversation. Even if Bigtimejustice runs to its rating, Firedupjustice has enough class for a maiden special weight to hit the exacta at a condensed price.
Miss Unbridled sits third in our ratings at 56.67 with a 3/1 morning line, making her a fair show price in a race where the top is clustered. Trainer Genaro Garcia sends her out with Amir Mendoza aboard, and the 52 average speed figure is workable for this distance. She's the logical third wheel for anyone constructing a win-show or exacta box with the two West horses.

Claiming · 1 1/16 mi · Turf
The turf claiming mile features a fascinating value angle — Trust the Word goes off at 20/1 despite carrying a TrackWiz rating nearly as high as the co-favorites, making this a race where the show slot could be a genuine overlay.
Hoby Cat leads our ratings at 71.12 and shares the 8/5 morning line with Rules of the Road — meaning the public already respects this one, but our numbers give it the edge. Fernando De La Cruz takes both mounts, which is notable, and trainer Aaron M. West has this horse sitting on a sharp effort. A 14% career win rate is solid for a claimer, and the 52 average speed figure on turf supports a horse that knows how to finish. At co-favorite odds, this is our top selection but not a price — bet accordingly.
Rules of the Road shares the 8/5 line and is trained by the well-regarded Michael J. Maker, whose barn consistently hits with turf routers. A 14% career win rate mirrors Hoby Cat's, but our ratings give Rules of the Road a 63.20 score — solid but a tick below the top choice. With De La Cruz also piloting this one (note: same jockey, different horses — only one can be ridden, so confirm scratches and connections at post), the Maker angle alone is worth a place ticket.
Here's the value play of the race: Trust the Word rates 62.29 — just behind Rules of the Road — yet goes off at 20/1 on the morning line. That's a massive discrepancy between public perception and our model. Trainer Gennadi Dorochenko sends out a horse with an 18% career win rate, which is actually the highest in this field. At those odds, Trust the Word deserves a spot in your show parlay or trifecta tickets.
