Fairmount Park Picks & Predictions — June 9, 2026

7 racesFairmount Park

It's a warm Tuesday at Fairmount Park — 87°F under partly cloudy skies — and the dirt strip figures to be playing fast all afternoon. Seven races are on the board, covering a mix of maiden specials, claiming battles, and an allowance optional claiming feature that should draw the best horses on the grounds today.

This is a compact but sharp little card. You've got maiden first-timers trying to break their eggs in Race 1, a pair of six-furlong sprints early that should set up some useful pace reads heading into the back half of the card, and a mile route in Race 4 that gives us our first real test for stretch runners today. Plenty to dig into.

TrackWiz has ratings and analysis on all seven races. Races 1 through 3 are fully unlocked — free for every reader. Races 4 through 7 are reserved for subscribers, where the card really starts to get interesting.

Best Bets

Race 1

Maiden Special Weight · 6 fur · Dirt

A wide-open MSW sprint where the morning line favorite is a distant second in our ratings — this could be a prime beat-the-chalk situation right out of the gate.

win6Dominant CaitlinML 5/1

Dominant Caitlin tops our TrackWiz ratings at 84.17 despite being listed at 5/1 on the morning line — that's a meaningful gap that screams value. She posts an avg speed figure of 52 in a field where the top horses are clustered between 52 and 53, meaning she's right in the mix on raw pace. Trainer Scott Becker also saddles the morning line favorite, which tells you this barn is loaded in Race 1 — but our model likes Dominant Caitlin best of the two. With Alexander Bendezu in the irons, this is a dangerous price in a field of first-time starters.

place1Army MedicML 2/1

Army Medic carries our second-highest rating in the field at 83.45 and is the morning line second choice at 2/1 under jockey Ademar Santos for trainer Heather Irion. His avg speed of 53 leads the field and in a maiden sprint, early foot can be everything. If Dominant Caitlin hits any traffic, Army Medic has the raw numbers to swoop in for the win — at minimum he looks like a solid place play.

show2Sweet SkylarML 4/5

Sweet Skylar is the public's choice at 4/5 and while our rating of 60 trails the top two horses by a significant margin, the morning line rarely lies about public expectation. Trainer Scott Becker has a horse at the top of the market for a reason, and in a wide-open maiden field you want to make sure you're covered underneath. Sweet Skylar's avg speed of 53 is on par with the field leaders, making her a reasonable show anchor in your exotic tickets.

Race 2

Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt

A claiming sprint with a clear top two on paper, but the pace scenario could get spicy with several runners posting identical avg speed figures — the setup may benefit closers.

win6Verrazano FirstML 8/5

Verrazano First heads into this spot with the highest TrackWiz rating in the field at 89.12 and a career win rate of 26%, which stands as the best in today's bunch. That 26% clip tells you this horse knows how to finish the job — it's not just a paper profile. Trained by Pat Clay and ridden by Johanis Aranguren, the connections here have a horse that is legitimately better than its 8/5 morning line suggests on the ratings front. The avg speed of 54 matches the field leaders, and the combination of top rating plus best win percentage makes this our strongest play of the early card.

place1Mr. ChivasML 5/2

Mr. Chivas comes in with an 85.88 rating — just a tick behind Verrazano First — and posts an 18% career win rate over his career. Trainer Steve Manley sends him out with Travis Wales up, and the avg speed of 54 puts him right in the thick of the pace battle. If Verrazano First gets pressured early, Mr. Chivas is well-positioned to pick up the pieces and hit the board.

show3Good ScoutML 3/1

Good Scout at 3/1 carries the third-best rating in the field at 64.83 and a career win percentage of 23% — only Verrazano First bests that figure today. Trainer Fernando Bahena and jockey Javier Tavares are a familiar combination at this meet. His avg speed of 54 keeps him competitive, and at 3/1 he's not a throwout — he's a legitimate contender to round out your exacta or trifecta tickets.

Race 3

Claiming · 6 fur · Dirt

The top two horses in this claiming sprint are separated by just 1.5 rating points, setting up a potential duel between the chalk and a rival our model actually prefers — find your angle before post time.

win4SomnusML 4/1

Somnus lands at the top of our TrackWiz board with an 85.62 rating despite going off at 4/1 on the morning line — the public is leaning toward the chalk, but the model says otherwise. Trainer Jose G. Rodriguez puts him out with Javier Tavares, a jockey who has multiple mounts on today's card, suggesting strong barn support. His avg speed of 53 is solid and his 11% career win rate is respectable for this level. The value here is real — when your top-rated horse is available at morning line odds of 4/1, that's worth highlighting.

place1Manny's KatML 4/5

Manny's Kat is the public favorite at 4/5 and carries an 84.11 TrackWiz rating that puts her just behind Somnus in our standings. The 14% career win rate and a field-best avg speed of 55 give her every reason to be respected — she won't be easy to beat. Trainer Mark W. Anderson sends her out with Angel Ortega Stanley, and at that speed figure she could easily flip the result on Somnus. Even if she runs second, you want her in your exactas.

show5CogML 9/2

Cog rounds out our top three at a 74.72 rating and posts an avg speed of 54 — the best in the field behind Manny's Kat. The 9/2 morning line makes him an interesting show alternative, and trainer Anthony Blea III's runner figures to be in the pace picture early. His 6% career win rate is modest, but in a race where the top two are expected to battle, a closer-type running third behind them is a realistic outcome worth covering.

Our free selections today are led by Dominant Caitlin in the Race 1 maiden special weight, and she's a legitimate reason to tune in early. At 5/1 on the morning line with a TrackWiz rating of 84.17, she grades out as the top figure in the field and offers real value if the tote board cooperates. Races 2 and 3 both go six furlongs on the dirt as well, and Verrazano First (Race 2, 8/5 ML, 89.12 rating) is the highest-rated free pick on the card — a horse who warrants respect even at a short price.

With three straight six-furlong dirt sprints to open the afternoon, pace scenario is everything early. On a warm, potentially sealed-up surface like this, horses that can get out and control the tempo from the gate have historically done well at Fairmount. Keep that bias in mind as you watch the first few races — it may carry through to the premium half of the card as well.
